About Civilized Rides
Civilized Rides is a curated collection of bike routes around the Boston area. Routes start from a square or other landmark in the Boston area, and they usually end at either a coffee shop or a place to get beers. Civilized Rides meet a few key criteria:
- They provide a challenging workout - some nice climbs and roads where you can drop the hammer
- They prioritize loops over out-and-back routes: There's nothing more uncivilized than retracing your steps.
- Most of the route is pleasant to ride on, doesn't have a lot of roads where drivers want to kill you, and is attractive to look at
- They include stops for sightseeing, snacks, premium coffee, and/or light beers
I've personally scouted, ridden, and iterated on every ride here. The routes themselves are high-quality, include turn-by-turn directions and POIs, and are regularly updated when I find a flaw or a road change. I'm proud of these rides and I hope you have a blast riding them.
